Continuing on from the knowledge gained in Foundations of Design: Representation, Digital Design examines rule based thinking through modelling and fabrication. Through the subject we were able to develop an understanding of design workflow. Beginning with a precedent study we were able to explore pavilion construction techniques to help guide our exploration of movement and thresholds. From here we began to develop our designs using parametric software focusing how geometry and voids can effect design. The fabrication element of this design enabled us to view the implications of transferring a digital model to a physical model and the manner in which material qualities can effect the desired outcome. Finally, these skill sets were put together through the design of our final pavilion. And our designs came to life through VR and Unreal rendering.

Digital Design as challenged my skills set and improved my design capabilities. I feel proud of the work I have achieved and the progress I have made throughout the semester. I feel more confident as a designer and have had enjoyed the freedom of the design tasks as it has allowed me to tailor design exploration to my areas of interest. This subject has made me feel motivated and excited for my future in design.
